What is a featherbed?

Featherbed during outdoors airing

Featherbed is the type of cover used most often during sleep with the filling of goose or duck feathers. A characteristic feature of the eiderdown is the lack of stitching / quilting, which means that the filling of the quilts can move freely inside the featherbed cover. The featherbed cover is made of down-filled, densely woven cotton, usually in pale pink or magenta color. Because of the difficulty in maintaining cleanliness and the need to clean in special conditions since the end of the 1990’s, the eiderdowns are replaced by quilted duvet with synthetic filling or similar to featherbed duvet with a modular (cassette) structure.
